Introducing the Crew
Maddy Carlson is a maker, artist, and educator hailing from Washington state. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After earning her BFA in Digital Studio Practices, she relocated to North Carolina with her husband and two cats. She brings her experience and knowledge working and teaching in museum maker spaces to Winston-Salem. Currently she is creating and teaching projects, as well as teaching classes and workshops at local maker spaces and museums.
Maddy’s vision and dream is to connect with local creatives, makers, and businesses in efforts to bring her own art and technology center to Winston-Salem. She hopes to create a space for interdisciplinary artists of all ages and levels to create and learn collectively.
Katie Bril is an artist, educator, and researcher from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned her B.S. in Art Education from University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and her M.S. in Art Education at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she currently teaches and prepares preservice art teachers and generalist teachers through arts integration instruction.
She is an art educator who strives to help future educators of all disciplines realize they can utilize art in their own practice and careers in education. She implements art instruction that challenges students to think about their own role, responsibility, and connection to the world.
She has taught visual art from preschool to the college level and has over 6 years combined experience working in schools, museums, community art centers, arts programming, and arts administration. She is an art educator dedicated to inspiring creative confidence in all students.
